Will John Alechenu Abuja Run For the Presidency in 2023?

The APC has made the list of delegates available to all aspirants. The party’s National Organising Secretary, Mr. John Alechenu, confirmed this move in Abuja in response to a PUNCH report. The move came as more party leaders from Ondo State vouched for leading aspirant Olusegun Abraham, who is now the state’s commissioner for finance.

The delegates of the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State are currently questioning their eligibility to be part of the party’s governing body. The fact that several of these delegates are serving appointed members of the executive branch has added to the tension within the party. A document listing the delegates of the state shows that they include two commissioners the head of the State Universal Basic Education Board. One of these commissioners, who happens to be the state commissioner of finance, is also serving in an executive capacity.

Chief Nyesom Wike, the APC National Chairman, and the Executive Secretary of UBEC have issued a joint statement calling on the governor to intervene to ensure that the universal basic education (UBE) board is reconstituted. The state chairman also noted that the state government has done a good job in training teachers, but the timing of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation is not right.

The delegates of the All Progressive Congress are questioned on their eligibility for the post because of serving appointments in the executive branch. A document of delegates from Ondo State reveals that two serving commissioners, including state Universal Basic Education Board on the list. Another serving appointed member is the state commissioner of finance. These appointments have increased tensions in the party.

Ondo State APC senators are on a stalemate, because the National Working Committee (NWC) gave automatic tickets to incumbent senators. Amosun and the other state executive members were upset, and the governors said they would not accept Oshiomhole’s nomination as the party’s presidential candidate. The state helmsmen fear a faulty procedure will result in an implosion and hand the presidency to the PDP.
